The service and quality I received are far beyond any amount of stars I can provide. Bob and Chris Ames exceeded all expectations I had for this excavation project. I knew I needed the right person to be able to execute what was required, and Chris answered that perfectly. Keeping within the 17% grade required by the county was one of the main challenges. Halfway into the project, we encountered another obstacle – a slab of pure rock that ran approximately 265 feet through the job. With Chris’ knowledge, experience, and transparency, we were able to accomplish it beautifully.
Not only was the completed project beyond expectations, but his professionalism and communication need mentioning as well. Chris maintained open communication throughout the project, provided updates, and worked tirelessly in order to successfully complete the project. He developed and supplied multiple plans throughout the mountainside and up the slope. We settled on the one way we both thought would be the best route for the driveway.
I would highly recommend Bob Ames Excavating to anyone needing any kind of excavation work. Bob and Chris are honest, knowledgable, reliable, and trustworthy. They will deliver high-quality workmanship and a memorable, stress-free experience.

Absolutely! Calling the beautiful Woodland Park our own home, we are well versed in mountainous terrain. We have more than 40 years of mountain-excavation experience involving steep slopes, bedrock, boulders, drainage concerns and restricted equipment access. We’ve done it all and seen it all, but scheduling a FREE proposal for your particular project is suggested so we can give you the official word on where to set expectations. Difficult terrain can affect equipment selection, excavation methods, project timing and cost, so the property should always be evaluated before work begins. Chris can come visit your location to review the site’s grade, access and visible conditions to determine an appropriate approach for excavation and site preparation or a challenging mountain driveway project.
Excavation costs in Woodland Park and Teller County all depend on the project size, digging depth, access, slope, soil and rock conditions, equipment requirements, material hauling, drainage and site restoration. Rocky mountain excavation services may cost more than say a flat plains town since our crew members usually encounter bedrock, large boulders or limited equipment access. The Front Ranges’ soil, steep grades, weather, and atypical topography make every excavation project unique. Since these Colorado conditions vary substantially between properties, a generic online price sheet would not provide an accurate project estimate for everyone. That’s why we provide 100% FREE proposals and estimates to any potential clients looking for a reliable excavation company they can trust. Fill out our contact form to request a free proposal for your individual property and scope of work.
Permit requirements depend on the project and the property’s jurisdiction. Driveway access, demolition, septic systems, floodplain work, rights-of-way, utilities and new construction may require different approvals depending on where the project site is. Any Woodland Park property owners planning to start driveway work should check their personal permit status by reviewing the Teller County driveway and access guidelines on our website. Before excavation begins on locations in the greater Front Range, it’s required to locate your public underground utilities lines. You can do this by contacting a company called Colorado 811, which is a free, state-mandated service known as the underground utility locate service of Colorado. You must contact them at least three business days in advance to the start date of your project to have your property’s official underground utilities flagged. This is a state mandated law, so no digging may proceed until CO818 has provided you a ticket. We also suggest to verify any other requirements with the appropriate local authority for nuanced locations or project types before beginning work as well. If this seems all too confusing or just too much to handle, our team at Bob Ames Excavating can help walk you through every important step and help you obtain every required report, ticket, or license to get your desired project underway correctly.
